Tybee Island Light Station n Museum

Tybee Island Light Station n Museum (keepers house)

I woke up yesterday and prayed to God and told him how wonderful he was. All my experiences have been wonderful. I am grateful for everything that has came my way. He is truly an awesome God! I praise him everyday and let all of you know that he is so good to me!

The staircase,178 of them…whew!

Scenery at the top of Lighthouse, pretty!

I got a phone call from Stacye Jarrell who owns these beautiful beachfront properties, asking me if I wanted to go visit the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum. I’m always up for something new and exciting so I packed up the kiddies and we headed over. I’m a bit of a history buff, so we thought this place was cool to visit while her on the island.

Gus was working the front desk and gave me a map of the place. I found out alot of info about the light house. “The Keepers” were required to man the light station. Before 1933 there was no electricity. The men made frequent trips up to the top of the lighthouse carrying fuel in large buckets. I dont know how they climbed those stairs a couple of times a day geesh! Each keeper had their own home. All the houses are still in tact today. This particular light house is the most intact light station in the U.S. today. The remaining family members of the original keepers of the light house, donated back the original furniture that was in the houses. I thought that was so great to look at. I loved the old toys and furniture of their time. The tubs were very tiny, people were way shorter and smaller back then.

Please take a look at some of the pictures that I took yesterday. I walked up 178 stairs and almost passed out! When I did get to the top of the light house the view was breathe taking! I got to see alot of Tybee! They have a gift shop built in 1930, A summer kitchen (which I found out, back then they built that separate just in case the kitchen caught on fire, they’re whole house wouldn’t burn down), Head Keepers Cottage built in 1881, and the museum which was filled with pictures, artifacts and more.

I would like to thank Stacye Jarrell owner of Ocean Front Cottage and the staff over at Tybee Island Light Station for having my family out to visit!
