I remember getting the text like it was yesterday when NeNe Leakes asked me for my address. She said she was inviting me to her and Gregg’s wedding! I was so overwhelmed because I’ve been knowing NeNe for quite awhile, actually since the show began so we go way back! So to get an invite from her was really special to me. Come inside for all the deers at what really happened at her wedding!
Cynthia told it best last night when she appeared on Andy Cohen’s show Watch What Happens Live, when she said, “the show didn’t do the wedding justice!” You had to be there for sure! NeNe actually had another date planned but had to change it. I think it got pushed up because at that time, she didn’t know what was going on with her other tv show The New Normal. I remember telling her too that BET Awards in Los Angeles was taking place at the same time with her first date. I was trying to figure out how I was going to fly back to NeNe’s wedding, when I was going to be in Los Angeles for the BET Awards. She finally sent out another note saying she moved the date which was June 22nd, I was so happy! First thing I did was call my hubby and asked him if he wanted to attend. He likes Gregg a lot and I knew that he would enjoy the wedding. He hates getting all dressed up but he was very ecstatic when I told him we were invited.
On Saturday, June 22nd, the day couldn’t have been prettier and the weather was perfect. The event planner Tony Conway/A Legendary Event is a friend of mine and we chatted while the guests were arriving. He said that NeNe wrote out a lot of checks. People assumed that Bravo paid for the wedding but that is furthest from the truth. Security was VERY tight that day and they had guards stationed at every part of that hotel! We signed in and it was bit of drama because my husband’s name was not on the list when I knew that I had put down a plus one. It was all resolved though, whew!
Guest were arriving looking so glammed up as we all gathered in a garden. I strolled around looking at all the pretty decor. I was dying inside because we couldn’t have any cameras or cell phones! People did manage to sneak their cells in but that was at the reception when people had a few drinks and loosened up lol.
We were then allowed to be seated in the room where the ceremony took place. I had never seen anything like it before in my life! I’ve been to some nice weddings but this was definitely over the top! It was gorgeous and smelled of fresh roses with thousands of candles. The room was all white with rhinestones and crystals dangling everywhere. Our seats were covered in white satin and the energy in the room was magnifying! My friend and former Atl Housewife Lisa Wu arrived and she was rocking a new short hairdo, she looked amazing in her Chanel white dress. Kim & Kroy arrived and I knew right away that she was expecting lol. She tried to hide her baby bump but it was obvious that she was expecting lol.
I will say that yes, NeNe & Gregg’s wedding did start late but not after Greg and the bridesmaids came out, it was before. We waited about a good hour before the ceremony even started, don’t know why. I thought that Cynthia looked amazing out of all the bridesmaids, simply stunning! Judge Mathis officiated the wedding ceremony. Everything went smoothly and gospel singer Kim Burrell really put her foot into that song she sang.
The reception was in another room and it was decked out with all white as well! The cake was extremely tall and made by the legendary cake decorator Sylvia Weinstock! The cake flew in first class and Sylvia was actually there with her signature black oval frames to put the final touches on the cake! Tony Conway had food stations that was filled with southern cuisine like shrimp and grits and more, chicken and waffles and more. NeNe and Gregg was introduced and she came out in another stunning fully encrusted rhinestoned white gown. She changed a total of four times and her shoes were by Christian Louboutin & Giuseppe Zanotti. Oh by the way, Bravo only showed Fantasia on tv for a few seconds but honey she shut it down and sang for awhile plus she kicked her shoes off! She was really good! I loved the live jazz band too. It was a fabulous affair and it had a very ol’school charm to it. Stars I spotted was Vivica Foxx, Gretchen Rossi, Fantasia, Jill Zarin, Patti Stranger, the Atlanta Housewife cast members and so many more. We partied till 4 o’clock in the morning and all I know is that Gregg was dressed in full formal attire but when it was over, he was in a white tee and pants LOL! I sweated my hair out as my hubby sat and watched me do the Soul Train Line. We had a blast and I’m so blessed that NeNe invited me and my husband out! Till next time! xoxo
