Transformation 2010: A Brand New Start!

Today I was overwhelmed with so much emotion, I couldn’t retain myself! I was asked to speak at the Atlanta Union Mission’s My Sister’s Home shelter. When April Love and Melanie Mitchell asked me to come aboard, I quickly responded because I love to give back in the community. This was a very well put together event sponsored by Strength of Nature! I didnt expect it to be soo many women at this Pinktabulous event lol.

When my daughter and I got there, it hit home with me because I remember my sister being in a transitional housing facility when I lived back home in Cleveland,Ohio. I love my sister to death and I’m very proud of her trying to change her life around and finally getting her own place. Looking at these women made me realize how blessed I truly am and how God works on us in mysterious ways. I was seconds away from being in a homeless shelter myself when I was a teenager and with the grace of God we were able to turn things around quickly but I will never forget that experience.

Rashan Ali and Tiffany Bleu

The Mistress of Ceremonies was Dr. Latoya K. Williams and she opened the program up with a powerful prayer,I loved her energy! We had a vocalist by the name of Tiffany Bleu who sang an inspirational hymn. The ladies really loved her as they shouted praises to her. We had some words of inspiration from Commissioner BJ Walker who was a hoot and she told us, “Not To Fall For The Deal”. We had a moving speech about believing, from Sheri Riley(Glue Inc). Later we had a performance by singer PJ Morton and his songs really moved the crowd. He has a great voice, loved him. After that we had some encouraging words from former radio personality/SportyGirl Founder Rashan Ali.

She shared some of her personal stories about her career in radio and how to not give up. I then spoke about how I was raised in a very dysfunctional home and how that experience motivated me to start my tv show and to dream big! The morning program was a huge success and alot of the women in the audience told me I really moved them with my words. I was so happy I touched them, I did share some tears.

Me speaking about dreaming big!

My daughter was sitting in the crowd(who is my biggest critic) and she told me after my speech, she was very impressed with what I said. She didn’t know her mama had been through so much at an early age.
