“Hey Tami, I have a favor to ask of you. I have an amazing friend who is persuing a career in radio or tv. Do you think you could give him a little information about how you got started in what you do and just a little advice?”
This is how I responded: Well I wouldn’t know alot about radio but I did alot of shadowing like at Fox 5 and other tv shows before I started my career. My major was Bus Mgt in college/minor in PR.I was in Pr for a hot second and switched after I worked for a tv show. I was very interested after working for an award winning tv show called, College Talk. Then I placed myself around alot of people in the field and learned as much as I could. I crewed on alot of sets and just absorbed as much knowledge as I could. I put in alot of countless hours and sacrificed my butt off. I had a mentor who helped me at Fox 5 by the name of Linda Torrence. She was a tv producer at Fox 5, she taught me soo much.

I suggest he shadows someone or intern for a radio station to see if he really likes it. I was a 35yr old intern when I moved to Atlanta, never be ashamed lol. I had fun and that’s how I started 6yrs ago.Tell him branding is key and to have tough skin in this biz! People can be very sneaky n cut throat but at the same time it can also be fun. If you can do a job and not worry about being compensated, than thats the job for you! I came in the back door and didn’t wait for someone to hire me. I got my own funding/sponsors and placed my show on tv myself. I bought my own equipment and hired my own tv crew, it can be done. It’s quite pricey but if he loves it, it won’t matter lol. I hope I helped yah!
