I finally got a chance to check out Disney and Pixar Animation Studios upcoming film, Soul and I must say it was quite interesting. I have been waiting to check out this movie for some time now and finally got to see an advance screening yesterday. I will say this, if you have small kids, this is not the family type of movie for them. I would suggest ages 13 and up would be more appropriate because of the subject matter because younger kids won’t understand.
It’s a tale of Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx) and he’s a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn’t quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is playing jazz, and he’s good. But when he finds himself in another realm helping someone else find their passion, he discovers what it truly means to have soul.
Also in the film is Angela Bassett as the voice of Dorothea and Tina Fey as the voice of 22. Joes true passion is playing jazz. He loves playing so much that he gets lost in his music and goes into a zone.
Later without giving too much away, Joe finds himself in The Great Before—a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22, to show her what’s great about living.
I liked watching the movie and although it lost me in a few areas, it was easy to follow along, good storyline but I was left with a few questions lol. To sum it up, it’s about living your passion and doing whatever makes you happy. Even if others don’t see your dream. Although Joe didn’t feel the love from his family and they didn’t support him at first, he knew that playing music was his true love and was determined to do it regardless.
Inside I share some of the most memorable quotes from the film, some very powerful and intriguing. Disney and Pixar’s Soul will be streaming exclusively on Disney + on Christmas Day, I give it a solid C. Inside is also the trailer and more images, enjoy your day and be safe out there!
