So I got a chance to see an advance screening last night of Barbie! This is spoiler alert, so if you don’t want to read my opinion or see the funniest quotes from the film, then find another post to look at lol! First off, I loved ALL the fashions, the storyline was ok but it was hella cheesy! That is expected because it’s a Barbie movie I get it lol. I could have done without ALL the agendas, representation, inclusion of EVERY single body, it just really took away from the movie! It was hard to follow along and enjoy the beauty of the movie (which was made very well and different I must admit, so kudos to director Greta Gerwig) but just too much of everything else going on geesh!
Everyone right now wants to be so “woke” and make sure they are not excluding anyone and thats ok, its just overkill and its getting pretty tiring now! There is whole threads on this subject matter and how tv, movies and more are just doing way too much! Read between the lines and let’s just move on!
Other than that I do have another gripe in the movie, and that was that I think that Issa Rae could have gotten a bigger role! In the movie, she is seen for about 10 minutes that’s it! She pops in and says “Hi Barbie” in the beginning, then maybe she is seen in about two more scenes and folks thats about it! She plays President Barbie but hmm? They “used” her in a lot of press to promote the film but there was extras in the movie that got more screen time than her! Hey, I guess it was a cute check! Issa also didn’t say anything that profound or meaningful! She was funny, don’t get me wrong and her clap backs were brilliant but I was expecting so much more from her and felt slighted just a bit!
The fashions were insane and lots of Barbie girls in the audience were oohing and awhing over the cute clothes throughout the film, I did enjoy that! Costume Designer Jacqueline Durran did her thing! The film did have some really good music with your favorite artists of today, if you want a good soundtrack to download, yes this one is really good! The movie did have a lot of funny punchlines and they made fun of Mattel a lot lol! But go see it for yourself this Friday and form your own opinion. I give it a solid C. See some of the funniest quotes inside…

You gonna beach both of us off?
This is Barbie’s Dream House. It’s not Ken’s Dream House, right?
You’re malfunctioning.
I’d like to see what kind of nude blob he’s packing under those jeans.
Blame Mattel; they made the rules.
She looks even better in more clothes.
You’re so beautiful.I know it.
We sell dreams and imagination and sparkles.
She looks even better in more clothes.
Everyone thinks I’m cool and I’m pretty.
I’m a man with no power. Does that make me a woman?
First step is always rollerblading. They are heading to Barbieland.
Don’t question it; just roll with it, tiny baby.
I’m here for little girls and their dreams in the least creepy way possible.
I cannot sit on one more leather couch; it will break my spirit.
I’m Alan, Ken’s buddy. All his clothes fit me.
I have a TV on my back. You know who’s dream this is? Nobody, it’s nobody’s dream.
I only exist within the warmth of your gaze.
Nobody looks like Barbie, except, of course, Barbie. Take a bow, honey.
