Mary J. Blige Talks About Her Love For Fashion

On the October 25th episode of the STARZ interview series “Fat Joe Talks,” Grammy-winning queen of hip-hop Mary J. Blige joins longtime friend Fat Joe at the Brooklyn Chop House, where the two chat about their shared childhood experience of growing up in the NYC projects, how Blige’s early career was surrounded by the scene’s most iconic artists including Father MC, Jodeci, Heavy D etc., the gift of being mentored by Andre Harrell, and more.

Blige discusses how she’s always taken her most turbulent experiences and heartbreak and used them to help others through her music. Challenging romantic experiences and emotional abuse led to her 2022 album “Good Morning Gorgeous,” a title inspired by her daily positive affirmations, and she reveals that she discovered a self-love and vulnerability that raised her expectations from a partner. The pair head to Pristine Jewelers in New York City’s Diamond District and reveled in their shared love for all things bling, exclusive designs, and the importance of ice to the hip-hop community. Blige also chats about playing Monet Tejada in the STARZ hit “Power Book II: Ghost” and how she and 50 Cent created Monet’s character, and the joy of bringing her to life.
