I follow makeup vlogger Jackie Aina. I’m sure you know who she is in the beauty blogosphere. I missed her videos and found out that she went on hiatus for awhile for a much needed break. I was scrolling on YouTube when she popped up on my feed and announced that she was back. She explained that she was pretty much revamping her channel. Aina added a few new videos and one particular video that stood out to me was this one where she talks about how “individuality is dead”.
She stated that, “everyone is out here looking the same and when you do something different, then you’re dragged”. She used Miami rapper J.T. as an example. She was referring to the City Girls latest photoshoot for her birthday where lots of fans didn’t like her makeup look.
The beauty guru also hit on “colorism” in our society and made some very good observations on how dark-skinned women don’t get the same love as our light-skinned counterparts or caucasians etc. It was a great conversation and I also LOVE how she gathers people in a classy way and calls folks out on their bullshit. I find Jackie hilarious and she is the best at clap backs! She chatted about individuality while doing a cute makeup look. See what she had to say inside….
Hi loves! Welcome back to the channel! Recently, there’s been a lot of discourse about black individuality and it’s a conversation I’m interested in and want to share some feedback on. This is just my thoughts and I’m curious to know yours! Do you think individualism is dead? Do you see dark skin black women as a monolith? There’s a lot to discuss, so grab your popcorn or makeup brushes, and let’s talk about it.
also – no more “everyone looks the same” takes from people who don’t even show up online as THEMSELVES (aka anonymous accounts). Enough!
