Alpharetta residents Lisa and Dave Amundsen opened Le Macaron in North Point Mall in October 2019 and will open a second location this fall in Alpharetta’s Avalon, an upscale, mixed use development and shopping area. The mall location is a full-service café, offering a full range of simple yet elegant French patisseries. The Avalon location will be a first-of-its-kind outdoor mobile kiosk for Le Macaron.
They were so sweet to send me over some to try and I was blown away and LOVED the flavor of each of the macarons! My favorite was the strawberry ofcourse…yum! Check out more info inside and where you can find one in your area.
Following Dave’s corporate downsizing, the Amundsens wanted to fulfill a life-long dream of working for themselves so they explored various franchise opportunities. Le Macaron was a good fit because there was little competition in the upscale Alpharetta market and it was a perfect business to merge Lisa’s hospitality background with Dave’s 26-year career in finance and accounting. Lisa still consults in the hospitality industry, primarily procuring sites for meeting locations and events.
“We worked with a national design team to create this new outdoor mobile kiosk model and we’re super excited to share our French flair with even more people,” said Lisa Amundsen, Le Macaron Alpharetta owner. “If you ask me, the fall can’t come soon enough!”
A macaron is a light and airy, flavorful and colorful, bite-sized cookie, widely considered the gem of French pastry. It’s simple yet elegant.
“Macarons are so fun and festive – and delicious,” Lisa added. “We wanted to work where we live, so we’re so happy to be opening our second location in Alpharetta.”
All of the macarons are hand-made with no artificial flavors or preservatives by Chef Didier Saba, born, raised, and trained in France. Chef Didier’s team makes all the macarons with almond flour, so they are naturally gluten-free and only about 80 calories each. Chef Didier also hand-crafts assorted other pastries including eclairs, napoleons, lemon meringue and chocolate coconut tarts and full-sized cakes for special occasions. All of the gelatos and sorbets are also hand-made and Le Macaron Alpharetta rotates seven of the 16 flavors for interesting variety. A favorite treat at La Macaron is Glacé, a large macaron shell filled with a scoop of gelato and rolled in a custom topping – a novel indulgence resembling a French ice cream sandwich.
Popular macaron flavors include Madagascar black vanilla, Belgian chocolate, Sicilian pistachio, red velvet, rose, bubble gum, salted caramel, lemon cream and Columbian coffee – when lined up in an assorted display, they make a beautiful, colorful, rainbow statement. In addition to the café at North Point Mall, Le Macaron has a presence at the Alpharetta Farmers Market and The Market at The Mill on Etowah in Canton.
Le Macaron offers catering for both corporate and social events and delivery is available throughout the Atlanta metro area via DoorDash and Grubhub. The shop offers contactless payment options and has hand sanitizer available for their guests. The Le Macaron staff practices typical safety measures including glove and mask wearing, frequently surface sanitizing and plentiful hand washing.
