What a time we had over the weekend visiting Helen, Ga! I moved from the Midwest back in 2005 and landed in Atlanta, Ga and haven’t looked back! All this time that I have been here, I never had the chance to experience a place that I heard so much about which is called, Alpine Helen! It’s only about an hour and a half from where I live and I had heard so many great things about it!
Sunday, my fiancé and I always do some sort of outdoor activity or go for a drive. He suggested we ride to Helen when I told him that I had never been there! He was totally shocked that I never visited lol. He would usually ride on his Harley with his buddies up there to the mountains. He said it had great views! We hopped in the convertible and was on our way! He was right! The ride is so pretty with lots of pretty scenery along the way and before you know it, you’re there!
Helen is a mountain town in northeast Georgia. It’s known for its vineyards and Bavarian-style buildings. Unicoi State Park offers a lake and campsites. Trails run through the Chattahoochee National Forest to the Anna Ruby and Raven Cliff waterfalls. In Smithgall Woods State Park, Dukes Creek is known for trout. Hardman Farm State Historic Site includes an 1870 homestead and the Nacoochee Indian Mound burial site.
We parked and quickly started walking towards all the shops, eateries and other attractions! Seems like everyone had the same idea because it was packed since it was so nice outdoors lol! We dined on really good food, grab a few snacks along our walk and just enjoyed the afternoon. Great place for the entire family and you have to try tubing in the Chattahoochee River, it looked so relaxing! They have tons of lodges and cabins if you want to do an overnight stay too. See all the fun we had inside…
