Laughs and smiles come easy for funny man Mike Epps, but yesterday he didn’t have to be on a stage or screen to get them. A part of Detroit’s annual All-Star Giveback: Thanksgiving Edition, Epps joined a team of celebrities at River Rouge High School, and for three hours, they humbly distributed more than 1000 turkeys and food baskets to metro-Detroit residents in need.
“Every year, my man Tarence Wheeler puts this together for families who are less fortunate and won’t have a turkey, or get a Thanksgiving dinner,” mentioned Mike in an interview with the Morning Heat on Detroit’s HOT 107.5, “It’s a beautiful thing to see these families come out and get these turkeys because they’re counting on them and they’re guaranteed.”
Sponsored by the NBA Retired Players and NFL Alumni as well as a host of contributing sponsors, celebrity participants included rapper Big Sean (Sean Anderson Foundation); Former NBA players – Chauncey Billups (Detroit Pistons), Rick Mahorn (Detroit Pistons), Earl Cureton (Detroit Pistons), Derrick Coleman (Seattle Seahawks) and Willie Burton (Charlotte Hornets); Former Detroit Lions NFL players – Herman Moore, Ron Rice and Lomas Brown; and Hall of Fame Boxer Tommy “Hitman” Hearns.
