The cast of Tyler Perry’s “Sistas” on what makes the show successful after seven seasons:
KJ Smith says, “It was an instant connection. All five of us. Literally, we were all family from day one. We laugh together, we cry together, we go through life together and that was evident from the first day and it feels really incredible to be in the seventh season.” Mignon says, “I don’t know why people underestimate the power of Black women. I don’t understand it but I don’t know, Tyler doesn’t so I’m grateful for that and for y’all.”
Ebony Obsidian on the passing of her mother and how her “Sistas” co-stars helped her navigate through it:
“First, I just want to say, I don’t actually refer to it as a loss. I refer to it as a transition of presence because I feel my mom all the time. I feel her everywhere and she’s all over my career including this show. And to answer your question, something I’ve come to understand is that Black women’s empowerment doesn’t come from men, it comes from other Black women. It comes from other Black women, it comes from our mothers who pour into us and our sisters who pour into us and I’m the youngest in real life of the ‘Sistas’ group and these are all my big sisters.”
