Decades later, Grace Jones, Tina Turner and Josephine Baker’s iconic hairstyles are still awe-inspiring. In the new short film, Hair Icon, hair care brand Beautiful Textures takes us behind the scenes of a special dinner, which served to honor African American hair icons. Produced by Special Boy Films and shot at Manhattan’s Mondrian SoHo hotel, the film features Michaela Angela Davis (Image Activist, BET Editorial Brand Manager), Jessica White (Super Model) , Bridget Kelly (RocNation artist), Amanda Seales (VH1 “Master of the Mix” Host), RaVaughn (Columbia Records/Compound University artists), Demetria Lucas (Author/ Writer), Tai Beauchamp (Style Expert) and Justine Skye (Atlantic Records artist). The conversational piece explores the influence of Black hair icons, along with the new found freedom of natural hair.
“The Beautiful Textures’ girl is versatile, independent and chic, and we’re bringing all of that energy into this short film” states Charlene Dance, Global Marketing Director, Strength of Nature. Surrounding the celebration of black beauty and women empowerment during the annual “Black Girls Rock” Awards, Beautiful Textures will release this film on November 4, 2013.
