It was an honor a few weeks ago to head to Orlando, Florida to be awarded with Dr. Stacia Pierce’s Women on the Rise Award at her annual Women’s Success Factor convention. Come inside to see what this award meant to me!
If you know me, you know that I keep it all the way real. That’s what Dr. Stacia Pierce liked about me and most of the audience at her women’s conference. Nothing like going to a blogger conference or event and hearing other people talk on a panel and it’s umm….B-O-R-I-N-G! Yep, I said it and that’s why my Blogger Luncheons and Panels are such and success and sell out because I keep it 100 as I like to say!
Off topic:
I have heard in the past that I “look” very intimidating or that they heard that I’m not a nice person…who me? I think if you ever really got a chance to know me, I’m really humble and genuine! You just might catch me at the wrong time when I am in ‘work mode’ at an event I’m covering. I have to get my shots and story or it was a wasted event. Think of this. Think of me coming to your work environment and sticking a camera in your face and asking you a series of questions, you would be kinda caught off guard and it would be awkward right? Well, that’s kinda how I feel when I’m at an event. I’m in total work mode when you see me out lol. So next time you’re out and you see me say hi ofcourse but do know majority of the time I’m working.
Well anyway, it was really an honor to receive the award and especially since my teenage daughter was present. Lawd knows it takes a village to raise teenagers now a days! Dootie knows what I do for a living but I don’t think she knows at what magnitude. Most of the time she sees me with my face stuck in a computer all day long then getting dressed and leaving for events. This particular day, she actually got a chance to hear me speak, get emotional and more. She said she was very impressed and had no idea. From the corner of my eye, I could see her really paying attention to what I was saying and clapping for me. That felt good.
After accepting the award, she saw a sea of women stand in line who wanted to meet me, shake my hand and take pictures. My daughter was in awh. She said, “wow mommy you are very popular”. I told my daughter that I was very glad she attended the conference with me and that it was way more to my life than what she had imagined. Teens don’t really care what their parents do for a living, as long as they can provide for them. She has a new look on mom now and I’m glad she got a chance to see another side of me. As much as we fuss and fight (because we are so much alike) I love my Dootie! So to sum it all up, I pray and hope that one day my daughter becomes something special that makes me proud to be her mom. Leave a legacy! Till next time. xoxo
