40 Girls & Some Shoes is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2007 by Sylvia Webb. The mission is to collect and distribute new and gently worn shoes for men, women and children. They have provided over 11,000 pairs of shoes to those in need, how wonderful and you guys know I love me some shoes! I was invited out by my dear friend Jayda Boo to speak at the Women’s Appreciation Dinner. The event was held at the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
Some of you may know that I was homeless back when I was in high school. I lived in an abandoned home as a squatter with my sister for 2 years. We lived in horrible conditions with no running water, electricity, heat or hardly any food. I always go back and share my journey with the ladies who come out to hear our stories who live in shelters here in Atlanta. Homelessness is very dear to my heart. For some odd reason some of my family members back home don’t remember this part of my life and say that I have fabricated my story but funny thing is, NONE of them came to check on me and my sister, so how would they know? I tell you people are a mess! Smh! So anyway, I spoke to the ladies to uplift them and to tell them it gets better and I am a living witness. Other ladies on the panel included:
Jayda Cabbell Divva on a Mission
Geneva Gross Cbeyond
Erica Lee P.U.R.S.E. Foundation
Pennae Lewis Salon Pennae
Dr. Didi St. Louis Morehouse Obstetrics & Gynecology
Margie Telfair Shannon/Telfair Group
Patrice Washington Seek Widsom, Find Wealth
It was a wonderful evening of fellowship, sharing stories, uplifting women and more! All of the panelist were given an appreciation award plus all the guests left feeling better about themselves and with glam goody bags! I want to thank Jayda Boo & Sylvia for inviting me out and please check out this great organization! Visit the site at www.40girlsandsomeshoes.org Photos provided by Robin Lori Photography. xoxo
