Hey guys, I just wanted to share with you that I’ve been selected to be a Coca-Cola Essence Influencer leading up to the Essence Music Festival that takes place July 3-6 in New Orleans. From time to time, I will be sharing with you some fun things from fashion, food recipes, interviews, beauty tips and so much more until the Essence Festival. I will also be attending for the very first time this year and I’m too excited about it and can’t wait to experience everything! In the meantime check out these fab tips on How to Beat the Humidity at the 2014 Essence Festival if you plan on attending!
The heat in New Orleans is no joke! While you’re in town for the 2014 ESSENCE Festival™, you’ll need an ice cold Coca-Cola to cool off, along with several options to keep your hair from falling flat in the humid temperatures. Mind these tips to maintaining your hair style in the humid climate! come inside to check out some great hair tips!
1. PACK HUMIDITY-DEFYING PRODUCTS: For naturals, gels are always better than creams, which typically contain emollients that draw water to the hair. Gels, particularly those with an aloe vera base, will help keep your curls defined and firm. For those with sleek hair, employ an anti-humidity serum before flat-ironing to lock in straightness. Pack the serum and keep it with you for emergency touchups!
2. CARRY A TRAVEL-SIZED KIT: While you’re cruising the Convention Center during the day, make sure to keep a small “worst-case scenario” hair kit in your purse. The kit should contain a travel-sized hairspray, travel-sized pomade, five bobby pins and a hair tie. You can literally save any flat, soggy-haired catastrophe with these items.
3. CHANGE YOUR WASH DAY: This will sound peculiar, but consider moving your hair appointment or wash day to a few days before departing, rather than the day before. Freshly shampooed hair is incredibly soft and more susceptible to shrinkage (for naturals) and expanding hair (for sleek hair).
4. CONSIDER A PRETTY PONY: Think about trying your hand a fabulous top knot (a slicked-up ballerina bun at the top of your head) or a fun side chignon (a bun near the nape of your neck). These styles will keep your hair in place and are less fussy than wispier looks that sometimes fall flat as soon as you hit the heat!
Would you try one of these looks? Don’t forget to tag your photos on Twitter and Instagram with #CokeEssenceFest and @CocaCola for a chance to add them to our Celebration Wall at the Coca-Cola Booth in the Convention Center during the 2014 ESSENCE Festival™ and right here .
