On Saturday morning I woke up in a very good mood. I guess I was too excited because it was a nationwide shopping event at all the Goodwill stores! If you were under a rock or too busy to know, Mr.Goodwill Hunting aka Rashon Carraway organized a I LOVE THRIFTING shopping extravaganza with local bloggers in certain areas of the U.S. to meet up at Goodwills and other fine thrift stores. I tagged along with fellow blogger Erika Ward of Blulabelbungalow and her crew to see what I could find.

My sequins jacket for $5.89

We met at a local Goodwill that I’d had never been to before. I had a ball meeting other thrift shoppers that were eager to find great finds. We went to several thrift stores in the area and I nabbed some fab keepers! Some women were very knowledgable about thifting and shared great tips. I found a great black and gold sequins jacket that you see me pair with white tanks, leggings or jeans.I also found a black and pink velvet Betsey Johnson robe that was brand new! I was not happy about the $25 price tag but I love Betsey! 11 Alive news even came out to do a quick segment on us, too fab! After a full day of shopping, all of us gathered for lunch and chatted about our great finds. We plan on doing the event again real soon, so check back for updates. I would like to thank Rashon for organizing a fab shopping experience and to Erika and Dayka for hosting! xoxo

Lillie Mae and I

I had a conversation with my friend (Editor in Chief of Sir Magazine)Lillie Mae about one day going thrift shopping together. She called me this morning and asked if I felt like going shopping. I’m always in the mood to thrift shop, so we headed out to some of my fav thrift stores in Buford,Ga. She says in downtown Atlanta, there thrift stores aren’t that great, so she was happy to come out here in the boonies to shop with  me.

When we got there, we parted ways and came back together with filled carts. Goodwill must have had a huge shipment because we both had lots of great finds. I found 2 vintage hats for 2.49 a piece and 2 dresses for 5.89. I was too excited! She found 4 skirts, shirts and belts. She is a skirt girl with a very eccentric taste, not like me. She likes dark patterned styles, while I like very girly pastel colors lol. It’s fun to see different styles that people have when you shop together lol.

Lillie’s thrift finds

She told me something that I thought was very interesting. Lillie is smaller than me but she likes to buy long skirts and pull them up like strapless dresses and belts them. She finds elastic waist skirts and makes tunics. I thought that was a great styling tip! I would have never thought to do that lol.

We then came out of the dressing rooms smiling! All of my things fit and she was excited that all of her things fit too. She showed me her look with the skirt belted and it was really cute!

She then asked me if I had ever visited Lil 5 points. I said I had drove threw there but never really stopped to shop. We headed that way and I saw some fab things down there! That area reminds me of The Village in NYC. I must say though, it is pricey compared to my thrift finds for a few dollars. The same vintage dresses I get for 5.00 dollars were down there for $45 and up. I was not happy with that at all.

I did find one vintage dress that I bought in Rag-O-Rama.Their prices weren’t too bad. I paid $20 for it but it was well worth it.  You will have to wait to see it because I have to get it cleaned and altered first.

Thanks Lillie for thrift shopping with me and please check out her site! Happy Shopping!

Pia’s cute accessories

My assistant Pia and I were talking about how I can find cute looks for less. We got up and met each other and I took her on one of my shopping trips to the thrift stores. She wanted a couple of different looks for going out to different events with me.

She said she didn’t know how to shop thrifty and normally would go to the mall to find a dress. We stopped by one of my favorite thrift stores the Goodwill located on Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville,Ga.

Pia in blk ball skirt with wife beater

Pia said she has been in a Goodwill time to time but rarely finds things. I showed her the color of the week, which was red. When it’s a certain color of the week, you get an additional half off of your item. Weird thing is that they usually take all that particular color off the floor when they do that, why I don’t know. I have a trick for that though.

They change the color on Sunday. So I usually get up and hit the store when they first open because the employees just get word. They usually start pulling the clothing that morning. While they’re pulling the items off the floor, I’m grabbing pieces too ha!

So we immediately went over to the dresses. Pia is very tiny(compared to me). She wears between a 6-8. She actually can wear a 3/4 at the top but she has hips like me at the bottom. I picked her out some really cute dresses and she couldn’t believe they were only $5.89. She found some great interview dresses and more.

We then went over to the suit section. I showed her blazers and suits and how to take dressy jackets and pair them with wife beaters or tanks and to just add them with cute jeans and heels. She was like oh wow!

Detail on dress n purse

I put together a couple of looks for her for our event and she was so happy. We found a black Jessica Mcclintock satin ball skirt with a red ticket! So that was half off. She at first said, “how will I wear this?” I said, hold on I will show yah. It’s always good to have a formal long black ball skirt. You can dress it up or down in many ways and it’s a great key item to add to your wardrobe. I went over to the jewelry section and got some long strand necklaces and the ones I picked out were 1.50 a piece. I love pearls and suggest you get alot of them to add to your jewelry collection too.

I then found a white wife beater and told her to try everything on. So this first look was all under 6.00! Remember the ball gown was $4.89 with half off, wife beater was 4.39 and jewelry. She was excited!

I then found a vintage black beaded gown. This was in the specialty clothing section but it was in very good condition. She loved this form fitting dress and it was a designer gown, I didn’t get the name though. This was priced at 25.00. I was just showing her how this would have been very expensive in the mall.

She then tried on a blue sun dress that was $4.89. We had a great time and I walked her around to different parts of the store. Pia learned alot about thrift shopping that day and she thanked me for showing her ways to save money. She said she will be back after purchasing 2 ball skirts and accessories for under 10.00. Happy Friday everyone!
