MG 9709edited I need YOU to take me more serious!

If you are use to me being happy and in a Pinktastic mood, than you might wanna click my page off now lol. Pink Suga(my alter ego) is up and she is not happy! I have been at this game for about 7yrs now. Some may consider what I do a “hobby” but I don’t!

I have always had a love for people and networking. When I moved to Atlanta with my family in 2005, my whole world changed. I have had many jobs in my life but nothing was more fulfilling than being around people and helping them in some kinda way. Plus I have a gift for gab and networking so me being in media fit like a glove!

Now, over the years I have gotten some very strange comments like, what do you really do, how do you make a living at that? Why don’t you find something else to do lol. I sit back and laugh and say geesh is it really like that? I don’t tell others to do that with their jobs, so why do they feel the need to tell me such crap!

There is nothing wrong if you work at a job 9 to 5, its just not for me! I’m very happy running around town, chasing interviews, learning about the next best thing, new restaurants, or whatever, its what makes me do backflips. I make it look easy if you’re a frequent reader lol.

I have gotten the most offensive emails and requests from people where they think I somehow work for them lol. They will demand interviews for them or their clients. I have gotten event planners trying to swindle me into covering their events while they save the budget for themselves by thinking If I come take pics, they don’t have to hire a photographer lol…oh I can go on and on. Its like they don’t really respect or appreciate what I do.They email asking me to “spread the word” on my blog but no mam! For a fee I will, why don’t you spread the wealth!

I have had people dm me on twitter and inbox me on facebook asking me to retweet some lame whatever, or could they place something on my wall. The answer is NO, so stop asking me! In all my years of doing my job, I have never promoted anything on anyones wall or pressured anyone to tweet anything for me! So why are you doing that to me? They also get mad if I dont attend their events. What the hell? I’m only one person and I’m a busy girl.

Lets break it down to cover an event. First off, I live by Mall of Ga area. How many times have you seen me in town? Yes around 5 to 6 times a week. Thats a commute and in Atlanta traffic omg! Secondly, I have to spend money on hair, makeup, gas, getting my kids situated and taking time away from my them. So please with that alone, you have to respect what I do!

In this business, people are only nice to you because they want something from you and in my case, is exposure lol. Come to my event and talk about me, take my picture with little in return for me. So if you are reading this “users, narcissists and opportunists”, I’m cutting out a lot of you in 2011! You will see me at fewer events and focusing only on things that are beneficial. If I make your event fine but if I dont, it’s just business and moving forward, it has to just make sense.

At the end of the day, thats what its ALL about anyway! Good day!

Tammie Reed Photo 202x300 Talking With Tami gets interviewed in Guts Glam Grace Mag!

Guts.Glam.Grace. Magazine: Are you living your dreams?

Tammie Reed: I am absolutely living my dreams! I always loved working around people because I have a special place in my heart for them. Yes I think I am!

GGG: Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?

TR: All my goals are not in line. I want to do so many things but I guess it takes time. I am a dreamer. I have so many things written down, I just have to place all my ducks in a row, lol.

GGG: Tell us about your company.

TR: Well my brand is Talking with Tami. It’s my baby, I love it! I am a social media princess and I work with over 500 brands! I interview celebs, review products, run my blog, travel write, hosts events and I absolutely love it.  Simply pinktastic!

GGG: Has there been an event/person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?

TR: So many people have influenced me, but one that sticks out the most is Paula Deen.  She started her career later in life.  I was a stay at home mom for many years.  I sacrificed so much for my 2 kids and now that they are older, I can do what I always wanted. My family always comes first.  Now I can spread my wings.

GGG: Three years ago, did you envision yourself being where you are today? If not what’s different? What would you change?

TR: Three years ago, I was doing this exact same thing. I’ve always envisioned myself doing something fun and helping others. Only difference from 3 years ago, I was in a studio producing my talk show. Now everything Talking With Tami has moved online. I had just launched my blog 3 years ago too. I’m always revamping myself lol.

GGG: How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?

TR: My immediate family keeps me motivated. Looking at my kids makes me a strong lady with great will power! My hubby is my biggest cheerleader and he tells me everyday I can do it! I get knocked down but I keep getting back up! You have to have tough skin in this business and if you can’t take a couple of jabs and a lot of no’s you may want to find another career path! It’s a crazy business and I have learned that over the years! I will never stop reaching my goals of one day letting the world know who I am.

GGG: What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?

TR: I have had many obstacles. People will promise you they can help you but really have other intensions or self gain, fake people, slackers and I can go on. I pray for them, wish them well and keep it moving!

GGG: What have you learned about yourself through this journey?

TR: I have learned that I have a HUGE giving heart. It gets broken sometimes, but darn it, It’s stronger than I had ever imagined!

GGG: Who/what keeps you grounded?

TR: Oh Lawd, my hubby keeps me grounded lol. I can come home and say hey I interviewed Martha Stewart today and he will look at me and say with a blank stare, “Oh really? Ok, whats for dinner, I’m starved!” Lmao!

GGG: Has your personal life changed as a result of your career achievements?

TR: Yes, my personal life has changed quite a bit, especially from other family members. They can’t relate.  They don’t know what to say or do with me.  I have rubbed elbows with some of the most influential people that you could ever imagine.  They think that I have gotten the big head but if you were to meet me, I have not changed I just have been blessed…ha!

GGG: How do you embody guts, glamour and grace?

TR:

Guts: Moving to Atlanta, a foreign place to me, my husband and kids. Getting out there, grinding and not looking back.

Glam: I have had a lot of help from my glam squad. Celeb Photographers Drexina Nelson and Derek Blanks take amazing pics of me. Stephanie Dawn beats my face and I’m mainly styled by Julian Lark.

Grace: In this business keep your head up high, regardless of whats going on behind closed doors, late student loans, bills etc.

GGG: What’s one defining moment in your career?

TR: A defining moment in my career was when I hosted an event with Fantasia and Eva Pigford at the Georgia World Congress Center. It was for Breast Cancer Awareness and I stood there like, wow I am really doing this! Fab!

GGG: Who/what are your favorites (pick 5):

TR:

Charity: Susan G Komen(breast cancer awareness)

Color: Pink, of course!

Designers: Betsey Johnson

Movie: Sweet Charity

TV Show: The Real Housewives of Atlanta

GGG: With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness?

TR: I do not think money can buy you happiness, but it would damn sure help a girl get a new pair of shoes! tee hee!

GGG: What advice can you give to other people on the rise?

TR: Please don’t listen to people in your ear all the time telling you that you can’t do this or that. Please excuse yourself or move to other side of the room. Get rid of negative people and energy around you fast!

GGG: What’s up next? Projects, trips, next big splurge…

TR: Up coming things hmm?  I will be featured in the December issue of Self Magazine and doing a lot of blogger events, hosting some parties, beauty pageants out of town and enjoying my family. Traveling a bit oversees as well. Keeping fingers crossed that I will go to Paris, France.  God is good!

GGG: Anything else you’d like to share???

TR: I would like to say thank you so much for wanting to interview with lil ol’ me! You guys rock! Keep up the good work! xoxo Visit my site at www.talkingwithtami.com.

About me

*Today I am participating in Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop by answering the prompt: 2.) About me. Do you have an about me page? Because people want to know. Write a page that describes who you are and what you’re about or spruce up your current about me page.

I found this writing workshop very interesting. I don’t know how long some of you have been reading my blog but I think you kinda know me lol. If you’re a new reader or skim through while at work or just browsing, you may not know too much about me. So here is my chance to share a bit more “about me”.

liltami 205x300 About me

Past: I grew up with one sister, who I am extremely close to till this day. She is a recovering addict and lives back home in Ohio. I never knew my biological father and it hunts me till this day.If I see anything with a dad and his daughter, I start crying. I am not close to my mom after many years of trying, a few years ago, I just gave up on trying to get love and affection from her. I’m not close to anyone else in my family. I grew up always hearing the words “NO” for everything. I still sometimes find it easier to deal with that word but when I get a big YES, I get very excited! I never had too many childhood friends because we moved a lot. I saw some things in my house that I hope my own kids never see or witness. Still till this day, I won’t speak about it. I was an A & B student all the way through school because I was afraid to get bad grades. I had a huge Barbie collection but my mother threw my immaculate collection in the garbage. She said, it was clutter! High school was my worst years. I was a squatter and lived in an abandoned house for 2 years. No running water, lights or gas. I learned a lot about survival at an early age.I have been a lover of Pink since I can remember. I was a cheerleader in high school and worked at fast food restaurants. I forged my mothers name on documents so I could go to college because she thought she was going to be stuck with a huge bill. In college, I was a wild child because I was away from home and no curfew lol.I then dropped out of college my 4th year because I ran out of financial aid. I then came home and immediately went to nail school and opened up my own salon(Nails by Tammie). I was very good at nails and won many trophies in competitions,my waiting list was 2 months in advance. When I met my daughter’s dad we got engaged and I sold my business and moved south with him. I stayed in Alabama 3 months and hated it! I then moved back to Ohio then found out I was pregnant with my daughter dootie. I was scared but I was 29 and said to myself, I can do this! I had her and she was the best thing that ever happened to me! Her dad and I didn’t work out but we get along great till this day! Two months later, I met my husband. He wasn’t my type at first but he slowly grew on me.I truly found my bff! We later got married and we have a son nicknamed, Pootie lol.

Present: I was with my kids at a market and a mystery man walked up to me and said, “you should go back to school”. Where he came from I have no clue. I started to cry and told him I didnt have the money to go back to school. He told me not to worry about it and vanished. I enrolled back in school a week later and graduated with my Bachelors in 2005. Today, my family lives in Atlanta,Ga. It was the best thing we could have ever done. I am so happy living here! I feel free, inspired and loved. I now do so many things in the  media industry. I have been blessed to work with over 500 brands(and counting). I love people and networking and seeing smiles on others face. I dont know how this all came about but I’m loving it! On my blog, which I started about 3 years ago, I mainly cover things that make me happy or inspired. I never blog about negative things because I grew up around that, so I do not like to be reminded of it. I love fashion, food, entertaining and a great party! I’m a very sociable person and sometimes I get people that approach me and say I look very intimidating in my pictures. I am not snooty at all, lol. I am very down to earth and the type of person that keeps it real. I can be stubborn sometimes and very strong willed. I love twitter and facebook is growing on me lol. I am very confrontational if I was done wrong! My temper can go from 0-60 really quickly about my kids. I don’t like interns or people working for me. I’m very anal about my business and mainly do everything myself. I don’t like when people make a big fuss over me and want to pamper me! I’m very uncomfortable in photo shoots because of all the primping.I have interviewed so many people I can’t remember now! I have panic attacks atleast once a week.I am very passionate about entrepreneurship. Mostly all my adult life I have worked for myself. I don’t take direction from others very well. I have gotten many emails telling me about my grammar and punctuation in my blog posts. I write like I talk. I use to get mad but some people think they’re trying to help me. One thing you have to remember,It’s my blog, THIS IS ME! I could have someone else write it but I think that would take away the authenticity of it. My blog is not for everyone but for those who come visit me, I APPRECIATE YOU! xoxo. Sometimes I am a bit tired and I do try to go back and correct things but other than that I love my blog. If you are judging me by commas and punctuations…then um kick rocks! I had someone say something very hurtful to me a few weeks back. “Well maybe more people would take you serious if you hire someone to write for you”. I just kept silent. Trust me, a comma here or there or a misspelled word has not stopped me from getting invited to the best red carpets, celeb interviews, parties, fab product reviews, travels, test drives of the latest vehicles or anything I have wanted to do! It’s called favor and a great personality,ha!

usher1 300x200 About me

Future: In the future I hope to be the best parent I can be. I hope to renew my wedding vowels next year, and become a tv correspondent on the red carpets. That has always been my dream to do that! Oh and to get my VW Pink Beetle Bug lol.I want Talking with Tami to be a household name! I love you guys and say a lil prayer for me to reach my goals! I love yah for reading and leave me a comment if you like! Toodles xoxo
