‘r&b singer’
Whitneys back!
Tuesday, September 15th, 2009R&B Crooner Nicholas Howard
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009TalkingWithTami: Hey Nicholas! I met you up in NYC! What a great place to visit but a lil fast for me lol. Can you tell us how you got into the music business?
I started making music at nine years old and never really looked back. I knew I wanted to be a producer and songwriter almost immediately, but I needed a way to make money and be in the biz so I went to school for recording engineering and in 1999 I landed my first gig at a top recording studio in NYC. I did that for about 5 years and then started to feel like I wasn’t being creative enough, so I figured I better do something about that. I released my first album “A Rip in the Sky” in 2006 after only taking 6 months of singing lessons… I was hooked on this new form of expression and my love for it has grown and continues to grow… I look forward to a long and happy career… ![]()
TalkingWithTami: You are considered a Soul,R&B, and Blues singing kinda guy lol. Why does that style of music interest you?
I grew up listening to the greats of that genre, from Howling Wolf to Ray Charles, Aretha to Otis. From the Beatles to all things Motown, I loved it all. The style “Soul” itself, speaks to why anyone would love it, because it comes from that place that we all share. When I started singing, what came out is what I did… I didn’t search for a style, it just sort of, found me…

TalkingWithTami: You have a new cd out called,”God is in the City“. How did you come up with that title and whats one of your fav songs on the album?
The album title came from the title of the song. “God is in the City” is my way of explaining how I believe this city, NYC, is a blessed place. It’s blessed in that it is a Mecca for the creative, the driven, the passionate, and the hungry, and they all come here to realize their dreams. With all that positive energy, how could this place not be blessed? It must be, especially since people still come here everyday, even though this is one of the fastest and toughest cities to live in…
My favorite song on the album? Hmmm.. That’s tough… I have a special bond with “Blood from a Stone”, “Mother” and “Scotch on her lips” though, if that helps…
TalkingWithTami: I love the song “Mother“. What inspired you to write that song?
Our environment is crumbling under the pressures of modern day society, and this song is an open letter to Mother Earth apologizing for our human role in this and hopefully sending a message to the people of this planet that we need to change our ways if we want to keep this place a beautiful and healthy place to live, for us and our children’s children’s children’s children’s children’s children’s children. In honor of this song, all of CD packaging, flyers, and merchandise are made with recycled and/or organic materials. We all have to do our part…
TalkingWithTami: If you could do a duet with any living or not living singer, who would it be and why?

ummmmm… Dinah Washington or Billie Holiday, simply because I loved their voices and the way that they delivered a song. Feeling is the most important part of singing/performing, and those two women were masters of feeling…
