I had the pleasure of going to a fab place right in my backyard Saturday afternoon. This hidden treasure is called ” Chateau Elan.”

Lots of people go here to escape, get energized, dine, golf, wine taste, explore and, oh, yes, take those wonderful cooking classes.

My friend, Chef Jacob, is a sous chef and conducts many of the culinary classes held at this beautiful place. The classes take place in a 1,600-square-foot teaching kitchen furnished with state-of-the-art equipment from Viking Range appliances.

Chef Jacob

Chef Jacob and others bring their individual and cultural specialties to the kitchen as they educate foodies like me. Their cooking classes are instructed at an introductory skill level, but anyone can have fun learning the basics they offer. The Culinary Studio is also available for private parties, corporate events and other cooking classes.

Sauvignon Blanc 09

I came out to the 12 p.m. class to see Chef Jacob do a live demonstration, and it was a blast! Six couples joined me as Chef Jacob poured us a glass of white wine called Sauvignon Blanc ’09. He told us he would be making a Tapas Mediterranean dish. It was a pan-seared Diver Scallop with Tzatziki (cucumber dill sauce) and grilled pita. He gave some great pointers when cooking, too. For instance, when you want to sear something, heat your pan first, then add oil. When cooking meat, place food in a clockwork pattern. That way, you know where you started. I loved that useful tip! When buying seafood, the bigger the number the smaller they are. Look for seafood with U’s under 10.

I asked Chef Jacob which chefs he admired, and he said Mario Batali. I also asked what is his favorite dish that he prepares, and it is angus steak. After we all chatted and the scallop dish was complete, we all got to taste it, and it was Pinkalicious! I would like to thank Chateau Elan for the personal invite. I really enjoyed it!

Owner Frank Taylor

Are you feeling grown and sexy? Are you looking for a place to take a date or unwind while listening to some good jazz music? Well you need to scat on over to Acoustix Jazz Restaurant & Lounge that will be having their Grand Opening March 25th! I had a chance to get a sneak peek yesterday and I was impressed with the atmosphere.

I got a chance to meet musician Frank Taylor and Chef Tony. Frank said he got inspired to open the restaurant and lounge because of a trip he took. There he saw a place that looked very inviting so he stopped in for lunch. It was a jazz spot and he ordered something on the menu that was the Al Jarreau. While ordering that there was also live entertainment and who was performing?Thats right Al Jarreau himself!  He thought that was genius!

Frank said, “we had nothing like this place in Atlanta, so I wanted to bring it to here“. Inside the place you can sit at the bar and have a spirit or two, or you can sit in the sexy booths for a more intimate experience. They also have another lounge area adjacent to the restaurant that will have live music as well for the overflow.

I also got to sample bites from Tony Chef’s menu. I tried the Charlie Parker BBQ Ribs, Herbie Hancock Chicken Caesar Salad, the Norman Brown BLT Salmon Salad and the Frank Taylor Crab Cakes. I liked the Salmon Salad the best yum! We also had dessert which was bread pudding and Gladys Knight Peach Cobbler served with ice cream.

While your dining there is more seating in the middle area where you can listen to a pianist. The waitresses that were on staff were very accommodating which is key to any successful restaurant. They have plenty of parking and a great place for a birthday party or event.  If you are in the area or plan on visiting, check out this jazz spot that will be open from 4pm- until Tuesday-Sun.  Thanks to Christal Nims from Enchanted Pr for the personal invite!

Savu logo SAVU Restaurant

My friend and I went to a swanky restaurant today for lunch inside of the W-Hotel in Dunwoody,Ga called, SAVU. I had never heard of it but when we stepped inside, we were very impressed.I dragged out my friend with me Dj Blak Magic since he is a foody and my hubby couldn’t make it. We were greeted by the manager Kevin as he showed us our seats. He explained the menu and about the restaurant. I loved the decor of the place, it was designed with very modern chic furniture in black and red tones.

Our waitress suggested some things on the menu, when I noticed it was mainly tapas. More and more restaurants are offering this style of dining since people are on the go and its easier on the pocket and lighter around your mid section lol. I like it because its just small bites and you can mix and match things on the menu too.

Executive Chef Stacie Vande-Wetering

We met the Executive Chef and she was fun named, Stacie Vande-Wetering. She’s been with the restaurant for over a year and she said the most popular things on the menu were the sliders and pretty much anything dealing with finger food, love! They switched from an Asian fusion to more new american style. Most of the clientele is business people in the area. Everything they make is fresh and in house, I loved her style!

We also ordered the Grilled Nann Pizza with Shaved Prosciutto, Green Apple,Smoked Gouda and Thyme. If you love flat pizzas you would like this. Then we tried the Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos and Smoked Salmon Croque Monsieur. For dessert we had the Key Lime Tart with Mango Coulis and Peach Blackberry Tart with almonds and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Let’s just say that everything was very tasty. Out of everything I tried I had to say I loved the Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos! It was a lil spicey and very flavorful. The desserts were also very tasty but the Peach Blackberry Tart is a fav of mine now and would love to try to make that at home.
