Last week, I thought it would be a great idea to give one of our devoted interns an ambush makeover. I am a Fashion and Beauty Editor at Rolling Out Magazine and I wanted to do a before and after of someone at the office. I spotted intern Erica Smith and thought she would be a great candidate for the experience. She works part time doing some interviews and other things around the office, so Mckenzie Harris(fellow fashion and beauty editor), Dwayne Rogers(staff photographer) and I got together to go over the project.

I called into some of my fabulous sponsors and they were excited to help put some looks together for Erica. I chose her because we always see people do makeovers with regular sized women. I wanted Erica to feel just as special and to show that curvy girls rock too! I put in a call to Shoedazzle, Chinoo Designs,makeup artist Scoobie West and jewelry designer Andrea,who owns Moel Designs. Everything arrived and we were ready for the shoot at Dwayne’s studio. Mckenzie and I did the styling while Scoobie did her hair and makeup. Scoobie gave her a very subtle look for day but then brought out the drama with smokey eyes and lipstick for evening. McKenzie polished her nails with a shimmery shade from OPI’s Fall 2011 collection.I think Erica’s two looks turned out very pretty and she was even amazed saying, “wow I love it!” She had never walked in heels before either lol. Erica also got to keep all the clothing and sparkly shoes!

In the first shoot we went for an office look where she wore a leopard print high waisted faux suede pencil skirt, black knit crop top, pearl earrings, gold necklace paired with black sparkly shoes.For the holiday party look Erica wore a two piece purple jersey set with pearl & silver chain necklace and black satin rhinestoned stilettos. Dwayne did a wonderful job of capturing Erica’s beauty! We plan on doing many more ambush makeovers and you just never know where we might find our next victim to be ambushed! Beyonce covers ANOTHER magazine and yes I think she looks lovely in her shoot with Harper’s BAZAAR, yada yada ya lol. The September issue was shot at The Ritz in Paris. I’m just getting tired of seeing her everywhere lol. I wonder do photographers get anxiety trying to come up with a storyline or creative concept for her when they know she’s their model? She has done EVERY kind of photo shoot known to mankind lol. I like her don’t get me wrong and I know she has a album to promote but there is a such thing as overkill, my word! I just want her to take a long vacay, that is all! Enjoy the pics.

Photographer Benjamin Kanarek was so kind to send me over these fun whimsical pictures of his photoshoot a few years ago titled, I Love Candies. My favorite shot is the girl in pink  with the huge mound of hair, fun! Here is a great way to sweeten your weekend, hope its Pinktabulous!

Yesterday was mad crazy and plus here in Atlanta we were expecting some bad weather. All day it was looking very strange outside and it was very windy. On the news we were expecting a tornado in different parts of the city,yikes! That didn’t stop me though from completing my photoshoot with celebrity photographer Robert Ector.

I have some press things coming up and I needed some new photos for mags and other things I’m doing. My day started off with trying to figure out what I was going to wear. One of the dresses I wanted to wear in the shoot was not quite finished from my seamstress so I had to decide on something else just as fabulous. I decided on a dress that Hot Spot 813 sent me about a month ago. I loved the design of the dress and how colorful it was plus the rhinestones.

I heading down to LaTay Mays shop Tangle in 5 points. She usually styles my hair for photoshoots. I get my hair done at M&M Beauty Salon but for different looks, I love how LaTay styles my hair. This time I wanted an updo since I’ve never had my hair like that in pictures. I was going for a goddess look.LaTay knocked my hair out in 20 minutes and thats another reason why I love her. In this business time is money lol. She is use to working at a quick pace and knowing about the latest hair looks. Her latest hairstyles were done on singers Mary, Mary. She styled my hair in a ponytail then added a synthetic braid around the crown of the bun,then smoothed it out and sprayed with a oil sheen.

I then rushed down to Taylor Ector Studios where makeup artist LaTasha Wright was waiting for me. I told you guys about her and how she is breaking into the business and is the most sought after makeup artist. She has landed stars like Kelly Rowland and Serena Williams. Most of the products she used on my face were M.A.C. Cosmetics and she mixed oranges and pinks and warm soft colors together for my look. She always starts with the eyes first,then eyebrows,then foundation.

After that Rob Ector and I headed down to Buckhead for the photoshoot. Julie Huff’s family was so gracious to allow us to shoot in their furniture store. They make the best custom made furniture that you will ever see! Stars like Ludacris,Neyo,Lil Wayne and more are frequent shoppers. I love that when we were looking for places to shoot, there was so much to choose from in their space.
