I was in charge of the giveaways and the Talking Pretty Lounge where people came over to get photo opts and me fellow bloggers and network. On the panel this time around, we had McGee Williams Osse, the CEO of Burrell Communications Group; Michele Thornton, the director of multicultural ad sales at CNN; Tracey Jennings, the VP and Global Director at Liquid Soul Media; and, of course, Kandi Burress as the headliner.

Michele Thornton was my favorite speaker because by looking at her, you would have never known that she was 40 pounds heavier and that she use to clean houses for a living. She eventually worked her way up and was humbled by her experience. She now is the head of ad sales at Cnn, loved her spirit! All the ladies gave inspirational stories and great quotes as well. Michelle said, “be a brand not an accessory”. Gold medalist Natasha Hastings talked about growing up with a single mom and having a love for running at the age of nine years old.

She also touched on her recent nude photoshoot for ESPN. She said she talked it over with her family before deciding to do it. Burrell Communications owner, McGhee Williams Osse spoke of brand management and told the audience, “your brand is what you project”. Keisha Walker and Tracey Jennings both spoke about different facets of business and on different ways you can maintain your company when economical hardships arise. All the ladies did an amazing job!

Munson Steed the moderator of the event, then did a one on one interview with Kandi. She spoke about the early days of working with heavy weights in the music industry and on how she was not prepared but learned throughout her career. She landed her first record deal at 17 yrs old. She talked about stereotypes and perceptions that people have of her and how reality tv can jump start your brand, if you are business savy and on top of your game.

You are never too old to learn and I really enjoyed listening to all the ladies. It was an afternoon of learning, fellowship, networking and building relationships. The ladies got to experience winning giveaways, great food, being motivated and gaining more knowledge.I suggest that you make sure you have atleast one friend in your circle that adds value to your life and that encourages you. The friends that want to send you club flyers and tell you where the next party is at, may need some re-evaluation, just saying! We plan on bringing this event back to Atlanta in the near future! xoxo

My Birthday Soiree on Lake Lanier

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

i HQHsPk4 L My Birthday Soiree on Lake Lanier
On Sunday, I spent the afternoon with some great friends on Lake Lanier Island to celebrate my 43rd birthday. My actual birthday is today, May 24, but I just wanted to do something small and personal over the weekend. I’m the first to say that last year was pretty rough for me and my family. Another untimely thing happened. My car engine went kapoot. I live really far out in the boonies where there is no rapid transit, bus line or anything. So, with no transportation, I was devastated by having to figure out how I was going to get to events, my children’s activities, run errands, etc.

But I had so many dear friends come and lend my family a helping hand in our time of need. From picking me up to just listening and keeping me encouraged, they really came through.  I wanted to give back to them by letting them know I cared. I’m so glad things have turned around for us this year! Yeah!!

I wanted them to enjoy my special day with me and soak up the sunshine, so we spent the afternoon with Captain Kurt Backus, owner of Atlanta Marine, at Lake Lanier Marina. Captain took us  across the lake on a brand-new, 2,700-foot Playcraft boat that holds up to 18 people.

We also munched on catered lunch by Fish Tales, pink champagne from Barefoot Wine and pink cupcakes from Cami Cakes and were provided swag bags from Victoria’s Secret, which included the new Aloha body lotion and shower scrubs.

A few of my other friends couldn’t make it, but I would like to acknowledge Tisha Deshields,Lori Reynolds,Amy Denise,Dr.Edward McDonald and his wife, Jayda Cabbell and my dear friend, Munson Steed, owner and publisher of rolling out. I told my guests that I didn’t want any gifts, but some brought pinktastic presents anyway, and I want to say “Thank you so much!” Enjoy all the pics shot by my friend Ben Evans(photoimagesbyben).
