Gabby is so sweet and I have had the pleasure of being around her a few times and interviewing her, she is the nicest and prettiest lady! At the end of every year I like to post some of the “Best Of ” from 2011. It’s fun to go down memory lane and look through my archives of all the events I covered, invited out to or simply just went to hang out. This year I was recognized in my community, awarded several times and more! It has been a crazy year, I must say! I learned to pin on Pinterest, grow my followers on twitter and use tumblr! I have met some fabulous people and some folks that I was not too happy to meet. I have gained some true friends and comment stalkers as well lol. I feel as though I have grown a lot with my ventures. I got a chance to travel to Jamaica! The very first time I had EVER been out of the country! I not only visited Jamaica once but twice in a month, they loved me lol.

I enjoy my job and meeting new people, it makes me really happy! It makes my job so worth wild! People still ask me today what do you do actually? It’s hard to say but I work in media, I’m a fashion and beauty editor of a few magazines,blogger,red carpet correspondent and I’m all things social media, how about that lol. I have seen me look at hot mess and really nice and in between! My weight has fluctuated between a 12 and 14, I see it in my pics lol.All in all i must say its been a learning experience and I wouldn’t change anything in the world. I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Queen Latifah a few years back here in Atlanta. She was so fun to chat with and down to earth, I really enjoyed Dana Owens,the Jersey girl! She covers the January issue of Essence Magazine looking very radiant. She looks extra beautiful because her makeup was done by celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine, you know he beats a face like no other. She is gearing up to kick off her new talk show coming soon! Love the cover, love her hair color, makeup,love her!

Yesterday I was invited out to Disney’s Dreamers Academy Media Luncheon with special guest Actor/Comedian/Radio Personality, Steve Harvey. Atlanta-area students past and present, who participated in Disney’s Dreamers Academy attened with their parents to share fun and heart warming stories of their experience. Most said it was a true blessing to be a part of the academy, and some even shed a tear telling their stories. Mickey Mouse,the biggest celebrity of the afternoon made a surprise appearance. He came to greet the special guests, dressed to the nines and ready for photo opts. A Disney executive explained that the industry icon chose Atlanta to host the luncheon because of the large number of Dreamers Academy participants in the area.

Dreamers Academy is entering it’s fifth year in 2012. Their mission is to provide youth an opportunity to learn how they can achieve their dreams. The academy allows students to experience life-enriching workshops, career enrichment sessions,seminars,one-on-one conversations with celebrities and industry experts and more. The possibilities are countless and I was fortunate enough to attend the academy this year, it even motivated and inspired me to dream even bigger.

Disney and Harvey received over 4,000 applicants for the 2011 Dreamers Academy and ultimately a very fortunate 100 were admitted. Steve said that he likes to select students that may not have the best grades, but do have family troubles at home or just down on their luck because that was him in his youth. Next month,they will announce the teens selected for the Dreamer’s Academy for 2012. The Disney’s Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey & Essence Magazine kicks off March 8-11 2012. On Sunday afternoon, I spent an amazing time with one of my favorite beauty & fashion idols! It was Editor-At-Large Mikki Taylor! I first met Mrs.Taylor last year in Orlando, Florida at the Steve Harvey’s Dreamers Academy. I was a bit shy to stop and chat with her.I was thinking the whole time, wow, why didn’t I say anything to her. She really inspires me and I love what Essence magazine represents!

Well this past weekend, I saw her again in Atlanta and I was not going to let her get away! I had the opportunity to interview her about her latest book plus discuss some things she likes to take with her when she travels. I was looking a hot mess that day but the pr person that invited me, informed media to dress down because it was a very casual affair. I still felt uneasy because some people do judge you on your appearance and Mrs.Taylor is a beauty and fashion expert, geesh!

She was such a delight to talk to and gave a very empowering speech to the young girls from the mentoring workshop. When it was my turn to interview her, I told Mrs.Taylor my dream has always been to be a contributing editor with Essence. We talked about her new book and why she wrote it. She said to me that she wanted to bring a style diary to women everywhere, from an inner and outer prospective. Mrs.Taylor went on to say she wanted all women to be “commander in chief” in their lives. She stated that she used Mrs.Obama as a muse because she had noticed a style philosophy in how she carried herself, her conduct,frame of mind plus she is very comfortable in her skin.Michelle Obama’s wardrobe is dictated by her, not the trends.

As far as traveling is concerned, the fashionista loves to check out the climate she is going to, then packs accordingly. She likes to take the “word” with her, music and great skin care products. She loves to be comfortable. Her new book, Commander In Chic: Every Woman’s Guide To Managing Her Style Like A First Lady hits news stands November 29th and I have a copy on the way!
