Last year I had the opportunity to work with and interview a lot of celebs. I must say it was a great experience. The one that stood out the most to me this year was Jay Leno when I was invited out to the NBC studios holiday party. He was the most genuine guy I’d ever met! We talked over eating at the buffet table and I asked him for a quick picture but after he was done eating and he was just the sweetest guy!

He is VERY handsome in person too! It was a great year to interview a lot of celebrities as well! I really enjoyed chatting with Sanaa Lathan about her movie she was in called, Contagious. We laughed and she even showed me how to work my recorder on my black berry! I had no clue I even had that feature, thanks Sanaa! Sinbad was a riot and I met his whole family, very nice people!

Freddie Jackson…what a DIVA!

Freddie Jackson 4854 682x1024 Freddie Jackson...what a DIVA!

I’ve been doing celebrity interviews well over 7 years now. For the most part, I’m going to say that my experience has been pretty good. However you are always going to have those few that are “Divas” and chile, Freddie Jackson was one of them!

If you are under 30, you  may be wondering who he is? I know but he was a kind of a big deal in the late 80′s early 90′s. I don’t remember but we use to watch him on Solid Gold and Apollo lol. Anywhoo, I had a phoner scheduled with him and when my job told me who it would be with,I said, “who?” They said, “yes that Freddie Jackson”.They made me feel old because I said, “why yall gotta give me the old heads” lol. So my interview was scheduled for yesterday at 11am and I called him right on time.

If you guys know me, I’m a morning person. I was as hyper as usual and I don’t think that 11am is too early to call anyone. We greeted each other and proceeded to chat. In my interviews I don’t like to ask more than 5 questions. That saves both me and the reader from becoming bored and when readers are at work and surfing the internet, they don’t want to read anything to lengthy. I like to keep it short and sweet.

Well chile short and sweet it was because every question I asked him was responded with quick answers like No, and smirky come backs like he was annoyed. I asked him, “now that you are on tour and making a come back, what do you consider your new style?” He said, “it is what you see”. Blank stare? I didn’t know what he meant by that and how do you write up an article with so many short answers. I asked him about todays music and if he liked any of the artists. He did say he liked Jill Scott and a few others. I asked, “are there any artists you would like to do a duet with? He responded, “No!” It was just his tone that I didn’t like and I can tell he didn’t really want to be bothered, so I just ended the conversation. I usually take atleast 30 minutes to interview people,I think our interview lasted all of 5 minutes.

If you have not been relevant for over a decade, I think that you need to humble yourself and be “GLAD” that someone took the time out of their busy schedule to interview your behind because quite frankly no one cares! I’m the nicest person in the world and I normally have a nice time with my interviews but it was just a bad vibe I felt on his end. One of the other questions I asked him was, “what do you have to take on the road with you, when you travel?” He said,” I always carry my bible because it’s a lot of wickedness in the entertainment business”. You don’t say? Chile bye, till next time kids!

TalkingWithTami: Hi Casey I met u at the Bravo A-List Awards,on the red carpet in Los Angeles! Tell us how u are handling your new fame since appearing on Make me a supermodel?

I am handling the fame quite well, every once and awhile I forget that I did the show and it takes me off guard when someone recognizes me.

TalkingWithTami:     Tell us how u prepared physically and mentally to be on Make me a Supermodel?

I prepared physically by running a lot, and doing crunches. I am very much of a thinker so I had to do more mental preparation than physical preparation. I just made sure to go into the experience with the mindset that I will be on camera every second, and not to over think each action (which is a habit of mine) because when you over think everything, you don’t act like yourself. Since it was America’s vote, I had to make sure that if America were to like me, they would like the “real” Casey Skinner, instead of the over thought Casey Skinner.

TalkingwithTami:  You and I have something in common, we both have had photo shoots with Derek Blanks! Tell us how important it is to have a great photographer?

I had casting with an agency in Milan, and he looked at my book and said, “You look way prettier in person than you do in your book”.There is an unspoken chemistry between the photographer and the model or whoever or whatever the photographer is photographing. And that chemistry does depend on the skill of the model at all. Some of my least favorite shoots have turned out to be some of my best pictures. So it not only very important but crucial to a model to have great photographer with that unspoken chemistry between them, because through a great picture in your book you could get signed by a great agency, and through that you could be booked through a great campaign, which is money in your wallet, WHICH IS HOW PROFESSIONAL LIVE!!!!!!!!! So yes, it is crucial.

TalkingWithTami: Since doing the show can you tell us any new projects coming up?

casey4 103x300 Model Casey Skinner!

I have shot one movie called, “The Right To Remain Violent” and will hopefully be doing another soon which I prefer not to speak of. But my next big project is my music. For the last year I have mostly been sitting in my apartment writing of my experiences, trying to put down in words what this new life is to me. Music is what drives me. I think in music, when I look around I wonder what the best song would be to match my moment, and if nothing comes to mind, I write a song to fit the moment.

While I was in LA I record an EP titled Typewriters & Skyscrapers, produced by Stephanie Bulger’s (another contestant of the show) boyfriend and a good friend of mine, Ryan McMohan. Its going to be only four tracks, and will be the beginning of something very beautiful. The EP is about that step between your safe zone and the vulnerability of putting yourself “out there”. Going out on that limb for the tastiest apple or success in my situation with the chance that the limb could break and everything will come crashing down. My original intent was to write an album, but I decided to take baby steps and slowly climb up the mountain of success instead of leaping up it. Wouldn’t want to jump clear over it, then I would miss my peak.

TalkingWithTami:Now that you have cracked open a spot in the fashion industry, can you share some good tips for aspiring models?

Here is the best advice I can give to aspiring models and anyone who just wants to take a good picture. Ignore the camera. Pretend like it wasn’t there, because the best pictures you take are when you weren’t aware that someone was taking a picture of you. Because it gives of this “I don’t care what you think, cuz I am confident in myself”presence (KEY WORD presence), and that’s what makes a good picture. Besides that, everything else will come with experience.
