I kinda shy away from going to a lot of stage plays because they don’t really peak my interest and quite frankly, I can’t sit still for so long lol. I had been hearing about a new play though called, Stripped. My girlfriend Lisa Wu Hartwell was telling me that she was starring in this play a few months ago. She is such a worker bee that it went in one ear and out the other because she’s involved in so much lol.
Well, I got a chance to see the rehearsal the other day at her house and I was very impressed! I’m not saying this because its my friend and I want you to go out and see this play. I’m telling you, if you love plays and seeing good actors on stage, YOU MUST see this one and support it! Even if you never go to another one again, please see this one for me lol!
I met Dorsey Levens out and about a few days ago. Lisa introduced me to him and I was like, hmm he’s an Ex-football player and an actor? Ok, thats nice. Then I saw him up close and personal rehearsing with Lisa and I was in shock! He was really good! I don’t want to spill the tea on too much of what happens in the play but it is juicy! Its full of drama, emotions, reality, comedy, what happens after your career changes, life situations, insecurities and more.
I really got into the scenes and started to sit up in my chair because I was very concerned about the characters. Lisa and Dorsey only rehearsed 3 scenes but I was left feeling unsatisfied because I truly wanted more! Lisa and Dorsey laughed and said I had to come find out what happens next, damn it!
The play will be held at Georgia Tech Ferst Center on July 27th-31st. Starring Dorsey Levens as Jayden, Lisa as Brooklyn(Jayden’s wife),with other cast members; Rashan Ali, EmilyRyan Stewart,Ed Hartwell, Karon Joseph and Emily Reily Russell.
Synopsis: Stripped offers a “fly on the wall” perspective into the lives of professional football players raising the question:What must pro athletes give up for the fame and fortune and who will stand beside them when the money is spent and the good life is gone?
I had a great time watching the rehearsal and can’t wait to review the play and find out what happens to their relationship in the end! xoxo
