Step 1: Plan Your Designs
Decide on the characters and motifs from Alice in Wonderland you want to include. Common themes are the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, Alice, Queen of Hearts, and various Wonderland-inspired elements like teacups, cards, and keyholes.

Step 2: Make the Sugar Cookie Dough
Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe. Here’s a basic one:

Ingredients:
– 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1 large egg
– 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 ½ tsp baking powder
– ½ tsp salt

Directions:
1. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
2. Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
3. Add Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing until well combined.
4. Chill Dough: Divide the dough into two or three portions, wrap each in plastic wrap, and chill for at least an hour.
5. Roll Out and Cut: Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes related to Alice in Wonderland (teacups, hats, rabbits, cats, hearts, etc.).
6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool completely.

Step 3: Decorate the Cookies
For decoration, use royal icing or a similar sugar-based icing. This icing sets hard, allowing you to create detailed designs.

Royal Icing
– 3 egg whites or 4 tbsp meringue powder
– 4 cups powdered sugar
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– Food coloring (gel-based colors are best for vibrant hues)

1. Prepare the Icing: Beat the egg whites until frothy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until stiff peaks form.
2. Add Colors: Divide the icing into smaller bowls and add food coloring to create desired colors.
3. Decorate the Cookies: Use piping bags with small tips for detailed work. Outline each cookie with a thicker icing, then fill in with a thinner icing (this is called flooding). Allow each layer to dry before adding additional details.
4. Design Ideas:
White Rabbit: Use a rabbit-shaped cutter, then add a watch and coat with red or blue details.
Cheshire Cat: Create the cat’s iconic grin and stripes with pink and purple icing.
Mad Hatter: Use a hat-shaped cutter and add vibrant colors for his hat.
Queen of Hearts: Heart-shaped cookies with red and black icing.
Teacups and Teapots: Use teacup and teapot-shaped cutters, then decorate with intricate designs.

Step 4: Final Touches
Allow the cookies to dry completely before storing them. You can package them in clear bags tied with ribbons or arrange them on a platter for an Alice in Wonderland-themed party or event.

Enjoy your creative adventure in Wonderland!
