TalkingwithTami: Tell us how you felt the day you won Ms.Black Ga USA in 06?
Totally shocked! When entering a pageant, you always wish for the best, but somewhere in the back of your mind you think that the title will go to someone else. So, when I received the title, I was extremely happy and in total shock!!!
TalkingWithTami: As Ms.Black Ga USA winner, what was your platform and why was it important to you?
My platform was autism awareness. My 10 year old son, Jared has autism, and I felt that if I were to win the title, I would be able to create an awareness especially in the African American community of this growing epidemic. Several years ago, the statistics were 1 out of 1000 children were diagnosed with autism, when I competed in the pageant in 2006, the statistics were 1 out of 666 children were diagnosed with autism. Today, the number is 1 out of 150 children diagnosed. It is vital that everyone is informed about autism so that early prevention may be put in place.
