Talking with Tami Interviews Unessalyn Sweet, owner of My Junky Trunk!
Last nite was another fun filled evening you guys! This is another event that is in my top 5 of all times! I got to hang out and party with Ms.Gladys Knight! My friend Rovella gave me a tip that I should try to get media clearance for ,”Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles Bistro“, Grand Opening! You know your girl was on it! Plus it was food, so you know I was there lol. Gladys Knight and her son Shanga Hankerson opened their second eatery in the growing city of Suwanee,Ga. This city is fast growing with the new Gwinnett Baseball stadium coming and other big businesses following suit. The restaurant is literally 15 minutes away from my house. The decor in the restaurant is very nice,with cafe style tables and white linens. She has a stage as well, just in case she wants to sing or have special guest come by. 
The red carpet was great and started on time which I loved! Bubba(The Pips),Emmanuel Lewis,Dawn Lewis,Boris Kodjoe and his loveley wife Nicole,Sisqo,B5,Terri j Vaughn,Final Draft,and Robert Townsend just to name a few, came out to support her new business venture.Im so proud of her! This was my first time meeting Ms.Gladys and I felt like she was down to earth, not a diva and made you feel right at home! She was the nicest lady.She said, “Im from the south right here in Atlanta,Ga and we feed yah, and make you feel welcome”. She sure did make me feel that way.
The food was delicious. The waitresses and waiters brought out tons of Hors Doeuvres/Appetizers, which were mini reuben sandwiches with thousand island, Shrimp Herb Cheese purse,Spankopitas and Quesadillas..yum!
The Main Dish was Half Waffle w/Southern Fried Wings,Smothered Chicken w/Rice,collard greens, macaroni & cheese and cornbread muffins. I almost passed out from eating so much,and everything taste just right! Nothing like comfort food!
Dessert was served and we had Chocolate covered strawberries,Sweet Potato Cheesecake Bites and Strawberry Cobbler,a girl was in heaven lol. The signature drink was Kiss N Tell Strawberry Martini too fun!
The atmosphere was so grand and everybody was dancing and singing to the music.Emmanuel and Robert Townsend were dancing and keeping everybody laughin. The entertainment was great, it started out with a comedian named Shaun Jones(www.comicshaunjones.com) then a female group called Jump.On.It(www.jumponit.org). Next up was Sisqo remember him from Dru Hill? He sang one song and he still has the pipes! Then,” The Beast” came out lol. Trumpeteer Joey Sommerville(www.joeysommerville.com) shut it down! Im telling you guys.. aint nothing like a live funk band! Ooh wee, they did an awesome job! Joey also had a sax player by the name of Ryan Whitehead(www.myspace.com/rkwjazz) who could blow as well. It was a great experience as I looked on. Afterwards Gladys sang,” Midnight Train to Georgia”. She still got it you guys! Go head Ms.Gladys and you looked so pretty in your dress! 
The songstress then gave out her cd titled, “Many Different Roads”, with such songs as,”Everybody” and “Mercys Arms”, this is Gladys First Inspirational Album. What a nice keepsake! I want to send a shout out to Mike Smalls for taking my request late and allowing me to come and having a front row seat! You are such a sweety! Another thing that I thought was the cutest idea was the Vixen Valet Service(www.vixenvaletservices.com) that was there. They added just the right touch to this amazing event! Good luck to Ms.Gladys Knight and I send blessings over your restaurant, you and your family!

Congradualtion on your grand opening Glady’s Knight. My mom and I have always been one of their biggest fans. I grew up with the lovely song,midnight train to Georgia. Oh! I must not forget the Pips Bubba and their cousins. What a down to earth family. Tami, you guys took some nice photo’s. I’m so glad you had a wonderful time. LOL Cathy

Hey Tammie. I was sooo thrilled that we finally met! I wish we could have chatted longer but may be next time. I love this post. I wish I could have joined you and met Ms. Gladys. I’ll have to stop by and try the chicken and waffles. Let’s get together again soon….maybe at Dreamy Gelatto for coffee.
Congraduation on your grand opening Glayds. Wish I could have been there to help the family to celebrate. Maybe next time.
