TalkingWithTami.com: Tell us about your company BonBonCupcakes?

 Bon Bon Cupcakes is a manufacturer of leggings for little girls. We started in 2007 making them right out of our dining room. Almost immediately they were a hit. Stores from all over the country have been ordering from us. And within weeks these stores have sold out of our products and had to order more! We now sell to stores all over the world and our online store is a big success.
The leggings are a microfiber footless tight with a ribbon ruffle around the edge. We have countless styles and colors to choose from. Our customers wear the leggings with school uniforms, dresses, skirts, dressy shorts, and cheerleader uniforms (the college colored Team Cupcakes are a big hit). They are also very popular with dance classes and pageants. The material is a microfiber nylon and spandex blend. The stretchy-ness of the leggings makes them so versatile. They can be stretched to the ankles for warmth during the cold winter months, or they can be pulled up to the knees for a cool summetime style.


TalkingWithTami.com: How did you know that your leggings would be such a hit?

When I made my first pair for my daughter, I took her to a baby shower and everyone there fell in love. I made some more, took pictures on my daughters and posted them on the internet. In one weekend I had over 200 emails requesting more information on how to order them. That’s when I just freaked out! I knew this was something so unique and a potential career path…. I called my cousin, Erin Cascone and told her what had happened. I burst into tears because I didn’t know what to do! She came over and we mapped out a business plan (she’s the business side – totally). We each put up an initial investment and decided to be partners!


TalkingWithTami.com:You sell most of your items online. Any plans on venturing out to bigger stores or boutiques?

Actually, most of our sales come from stores and boutiques. We recently sold to some big department stores as well. We just started our online store a year ago, and are really focusing on marketing it this year. Most of our online sales have been word of mouth. We want to make some major progress with our web store!

TalkingWithTami.com: When your not creating your leggings, whats something else that you enjoy crafting?

When I’m not working with the leggings, I love every kind of art you can think of. I can’t keep my hands from doing something! Before I had kids, I was a well known mural artist in Kansas City. I painted murals and decorative finishes for 9 years. I retired when I kept getting pregnant. It made it difficult to schedule jobs! Since then I’ve been a stay at home mom. I play around with interior design, photography, graphic design, and of course PlayDough and cutting and pasting .

Erin and I have husbands that are cousins. They both run the family restaurants in Kansas City. Our second favorite thing to to is eat. We will plan our vacations, not around location, but around where we want to eat! It sounds strange that eating at great restaurants is a hobby for us, but we might as well tell it like it is…. we love food.

TalkingWithTami.com: Whats one word you think of daily,when you think of your company and why?

Wow, that’s a hard one.
